Wake Up To Waste Retailers Charter

As retailers we recognise that we have a responsibility to take all reasonable steps to minimise waste and communicate that message to our customers and suppliers.

We are committed to reducing the amount of waste that goes to land fill and will work towards achieving the primary targets for recovery and reduction of waste as set out in the European Landfill Directive and the Northern Ireland Waste Management Strategy.

We will provide support for the Environment and Heritage Service's Wake Up To Waste Campaign by:

  • Promoting the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' message to customers and staff through instore awareness-raising initiatives
  • Undertaking to reduce plastic carrier bag usage through education and provision of alternative reusable options
  • Identifying and exploring opportunities to use recycled materials
  • Implementing waste management best practice throughout our business operations
  • Providing customer collection points for recycling wherever possible
  • Communicating the impact of these waste reduction initiatives to our partners at the Environment and Heritage Service to enable evaluation of the public response to Wake Up To Waste and the Retail Partnership
