Buy Recycled

All the materials collected for recycling and making into new materials must now be sold.  You can help by looking for products with a recycled content when you are out shopping.

  • Paper: cards, letter, computer and drawing paper all come in high quality, different coloured recycled versions
  • Glass: most bottles and jars now contain a proportion of recycled material
  • Plastic: plastic can be recycled into fleeces, garden furniture, rubbish sacks etc
  • Compost: make sure you buy peat free compost – it prevents destruction of wildlife rich boglands and provides a market for commercial composting operations.  Better still – make your own
  • Textiles: look for recycled textiles or those with a recycled content e.g. household dusters containing recycled fibres

Recycle logo

’x’ in the Mobius loop logo indicates the percentage recycled content

Activities

  • Check household goods to see if they have a recycled content
  • Draw a poster promoting products made from recycled materials
  • Imagine you are a shop manager.  List the products you could stock that have a recycled content and then list those that could be recycled
  • Does your school buy recycled products?  If so, which ones?  Could you encourage them to buy more?  How?
