Activity – Design (and produce) a Can Crusher

Note:  you may wish to use this activity with older pupils

Why crush cans?

By crushing and reducing the volume of an empty can less storage space is required and collection costs are reduced.  Can crushers must be:

• East to use
• Easy to clean
• Tough and robust
• Easy to empty
• Safe to use

Extension:

• Will your Can Crusher crush Steel cans, Aluminium cans or both?
• Can it crush any size of can?
• How could you market your invention?
