Plastic Waste
Activity – Build a Bird Feeder
You will need
- Empty yoghurt pots, margarine tubs or similar
- String
- Lard
- Wild birdseed
- Unsalted, unprocessed peanuts
- Kitchen waste such as bread, fat and cheese
What
to Do
- Carefully pierce a hole on either side of the plastic container
close to the base
- Thread through a piece of string and tie the ends together tightly to form
a loop
- Melt the lard until it goes soft
- Mix the birdseed, peanuts and food waste into the lard until the mixture goes
stiff
- Spoon the mixture into the container making sure to press it down to the bottom
to cover the string
- Leave to harden overnight
- Hang the feeder upside down from a tree or shrub outside and watch the birds
come to feed
