The Waste Management Strategy for Northern Ireland (2000) provides a framework for the development and achievement of sustainable waste management practices in Northern Ireland, as required by EC Directives.

Review of Waste Management Strategy for Northern Ireland

The Department is currently reviewing the Northern Ireland Waste Management Strategy. It is expected to be launched for public consultation in Autumn 2005.

The Waste Management and Contaminated Land Unit (WMCL)

WMCL is responsible for the implementation of waste management policy and the promotion of a more sustainable approach to dealing with waste in Northern Ireland. This will make a major contribution to safeguarding the environment and promoting resource efficiency and economic growth.
